Kennedy Forum Parity Tools

Don’t Deny Me is a website that educates consumers and providers about patient rights under the Federal Parity Law, which requires insurers to cover illnesses of the brain, such as depression or addiction, no more restrictively than illnesses of the body, such as diabetes or cancer. Providers are encouraged to download and print posters, brochures, and infographics to use in patient settings.

Parity Registry is a website where consumers can learn to file appeals—after wrongful denials of insurance coverage for mental health and addiction treatment services—and register complaints against their health plans.

Parity Track is a website where policymakers and others can track legislative, regulatory, and legal parity activities in all 50 states and at the federal level to monitor implementation and best practices.

The Kennedy Forum Blog — providing clear, credible commentary and analysis on today’s most pressing issues in mental health and addiction parity, policy, and treatment.

About

Through The Kennedy Forum, Patrick and Amy Kennedy lead a national dialogue to achieve systemic reform in the U.S. healthcare system by advancing evidence-based practices, policies, and programming for the prevention and treatment of brain illnesses — specifically mental health and addiction. Founded in 2013, we have proven our unique ability to unite mental health advocates, business leaders, health plans, and government agencies. In the last decade we have already improved access to care for people managing brain illnesses by filling a solutions void at both the grassroots and systems level.

What is Parity?

Parity is the Law: The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (the Federal Parity Law) requires that health plans cover mental health, eating disorder, and addiction care health benefits the same way they cover physical health benefits.
